History
Sucker day is held each year to
commemorate the day in 1950 when the town of Wetumka was "suckered" by
con man F. Bam Morrison.
Morrison claimed to be bringing a circus
to town on July 24. He promised that people would come from
miles around to see it.
Wetumka made all the preparations and
when July 24 came there was no F. Bam Morrison with his circus.
So, the townspeople decided to make the
best of being "suckered" by holding their own celebration, complete with
a parade and street fair.
Thus, the tradition of Sucker Day was born. It is held the last
Saturday in September of each year.
